The Xplorer is the new creation in K2’s Apache series of all-mountain skis. The Apache series is focused on versatility for use in a variety of lift-accessed and off-piste environments. Each Apache model is designed under the direction of K2’s pro ski team: a “Who’s Who” comprised of many contemporary ski legends such as Zach and Reggie Crist and Shane McConkey. Each Apache ski features a men’s specific MOD structure, a secondary elastomeric core that minimizes vibrations, reduces fatigue and increases torsional stiffness for power and control. Additionally, K2 designed a new K2/MX binding system in the Apache line that applies pressure to the perimeter of the wider skis to improve responsiveness and turning ability

Description

The Xplorer is a brand new edition to the Apache series although the name goes back to '97; a ski designed for teh same skiing pursuits. The Xplorer was and still is the ideal choice for those who not only spend their day searching for fresh turns in the backcountry but also laying down arcs on the groomers. The 84mm waist and generous 17/16 progressive sidecut performs well on both soft and hard conditions. The Titan Metal Laminate construction, MOD Monic and MOD Technology keep it rock solid and stable in any conditions you discover.

Features
  • PERFORMANCE: Expert
  • DIMENSIONS: 119/78/105
  • K2/MX System: Highest performance K2 ski/Marker binding system. This entirely new binding system offers the most direct transmission of power to the ski for unmatched precision and control used exclusively on our high end Apache skis. The K2/MX maximizes the performance of the ski/binding interface by offering a wider contact to the ski for the best delivery of power to the edge. The K2 MX does this in three ways. First, the MX system uses Marker's new Inter-Pivot Heel technology that has a wider footprint extending its contact point closer to the edge of the ski.
  • Second, the system hubs are functionally wider than 50mm footprint which further decreases the distance between the binding and the edge of the ski for higher performance. Finally, the MX system has tighter tolerances between the binding and the surface of the secondary ski core for a more precise feel.
  • Titan Metal Laminate Construction: Titan Metal Laminate is a visible extension of the standard metal laminate. As skis get wider, especially in the shovel, a metal laminate can begin to feel overwhelming. Titan Technology achieves overall swing weight reduction by removing material from the toplayer of titinal in the tip and tail. REduced swing weight offers a skier more control, with less fatigue.
  • MOD Monic: Fully integrated within the MOD structure, MOD Monic is an extension of MOD Technology, focusing the benefits of mass dampening into a concentrated area. The entire surface of a ski benefits from the MOD structure, bit some areas need more than others. Independent studies at Boeing Laboratories determined precisely where to place the Monic by finding the area of the ski that would benefit the most from additional mass. By targeting a specific area, we aren't needlessly adding weight. Monic allows for the majority of the MOD structure to be lightened, and have extra mass focused precisely where it increases performance.
  • MOD Technology: Praised by magazine tests and validated by skiers around the world, MOD Technology has proven to be the ultimate in ski deign today. MOD combines an elastomeric secondary core that works as a high-performance suspension system and mass damper to provide the highest degree of ease, power, forgiveness and performance available in skis today. The amount, application and distribution of mass are keys to the success of MOD Technology. At K2, unlike any other manufacturer, our application of mass via the MOD structure doe not affect flex, allowing the ski to perform freely while MOD absorbs unwanted vibrations independently.
